ศูนย์วิจัยการเผากากของเสีย (ศวก.) หรือ The Waste Incineration Research Center (WIRC) ได้ริเริ่มขึ้นในเดือนธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2540 ภายใต้การสนับสนุนของมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าพระนครเหนือ โดยมีภารกิจหลักในการทำวิจัยพื้นฐานและการทำวิจัยประยุกต์ การให้บริการวิชากร และให้คำปรึกษาต่อหน่วยงานภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชนและอุตสาหกรรมต่างๆ ในส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการจัดการของเสียโดยกรรมวิธีทางความร้อน รวมถึงการใช้พลังงานสะอาดอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
